Announcement of Affordable Housing Partnerships Initiative (AHPI) Funding

The Bridges—Phase 2 + Horizon Housing—Inglewood Affordable Housing Developments

On February 9 the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Alberta Municipal Affairs and Housing will announce that funding under Phase II of the Affordable Housing Partnerships Initiative (AHPI) for The City of Calgary’s Bridges—Phase 2 and Horizon Housing—Inglewood affordable housing projects has been approved. The grant funding totals $5.4 million ($2.7 million from each of the federal and provincial governments) for The Bridges—Phase 2, and $15 million ($7.5 million from each of the federal and provincial governments) for Horizon Housing—Inglewood. These projects represent two different models to facilitate the development of affordable housing in Calgary.

We are pleased to receive this funding today. It now means that we can move forward with providing affordable housing in The Bridges, subject to Council approval.

Today’s announcement also secures a major portion of the funding for the Horizon Housing—Inglewood project of which The City is providing $2 million in land.

The development of affordable housing is a Council priority. Today’s announcement helps address this important challenge facing Calgary.

These two projects are good examples of how by working together—the three orders of government, non-profit housing providers, and the private industry—the housing needs of Calgarians will continue to be addressed.

The Bridges and Horizon Housing—Inglewood sites are favourable locations for affordable housing due to their proximity to transit routes, social support services, community amenities, employment opportunities,  shopping, and park areas.
