Earth Day April 22

This year the City of Calgary is working together with Pitch In Canada to make the event even more successful. Alderman Ceci is asking all Calgarians at work, school or at home to stop what you’re doing on and do a 22 minute clean-up blitz around your office, school or neighbourhood. It’s just 22 minutes, but it makes all the difference in the world.

“The 22 minute makeover is an opportunity to gather with your family or neighbours, and simply spend 22 minutes when it suits you picking up litter,” says Alderman Ceci, who with a team of volunteers has been filling garbage bags on almost every Sunday for a year and half as part of a regular cleanup effort. Garbage bags, gloves and information will be provided and available at various locations around Ward 9.

The Bridgeland Riverside Community Association (BRCA) was the showcase community with 10 supply locations and 4 teams registered.

“We were pleased to participate” comments Sharon McKendrick, Past- President of BRCA. “This gave the Community Association an opportunity to jump on board with this worthwhile project”.

All 13 residential communities in Ward 9 are participating along with local businesses to developers to schools and non-profit agencies, and just neighbours on the street — everyone can pitch in.
